Built in 1845, this Thai Buddhist temple has one of the largest Reclining Buddha statues in the world. Spectacular to behold, the statue is completely gold-plated and measures 33 metres in length. You will also find magnificently crafted statues of Devas and other mythical creatures on temple grounds.

The Gardens came to existence in 1884 and were known as "the Waterfall Gardens". Walking around the Gardens, one cannot miss the Cannon Ball Tree, the large buttress roots of the Sengkuang Tree and various plants. From afar, witness the clear streams of water flowing on the hills above the reservoir. Fort Cornwallis was built in 1786 and was designed for defence. Although it is so, Fort Cornwallis served more as an administrative centre for the British, having survived without much threat of enemy attacks. Fort Cornwallis was once surrounded with a moat roughly 9m wide and 2m deep. In the fort, one can still see some of the original structures built over a century ago, including a chapel, prison cells, which were once used as barracks, a munitions storage area, a harbour light once used to signal incoming ships, the original flagstaff and several old bronze canons.

Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi, or Khoo Kongsi for short, is one of the most distinctive Chinese clan houses in Malaysia. Leong San Tong is a two-storey building made up of three main sections up the stairs. The middle hall that reads 'Leong San Tong' in Chinese characters is the prayer pavilion whereby the wooden beams are richly ornamented and beautifully carved. Mural drawings painted on the rear corridor wall share great Chinese literature, lifestyle and culture. One of them features the auspicious 'The Eight Immortals.' Renowned as the greatest clan temple in the country, this structure marks the prominent presence of the Chinese in Penang Island.

Kek Lok Si, the largest Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia, began construction in 1890. Its seven-storey and 30-metre high tower features a pagoda of Rama VI and is widely acknowledged as the 'face' of Kek Lok Si. The handcrafted Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas was completed in 1930, followed by a 36.5 metre bronze statue of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy statue at the highest level in 2002. The temple lights up in remarkable fashion during Chinese New Year with over 200,000 decorative lights and lanterns.

The Tropical Spice Garden is situated in what was once an abandoned, rubber plantation along Penang' north-western shores. Over 500 varieties of exotic spices, herbs and other tropical plants can be found here, including black lilies, cocoa, ylang ylang, ferns, gingers, jungle orchids and rare palms. The gardens also have a giant swing which hangs 9 meters from a tree on an elevated platform. Expect to see giant water lilies along with many other plants in the jungle trail.
